But don’t let his casual attitude fool you – Jerry Kohn knows wine, even if he did get started at Dobby’s by accident. “I was studying to be a math teacher, working at Dobby’s for $5 an hour as a cashier, and with one year left in school Mr. Dobby made me an offer to handle microbrews. A year later, I moved into wines.”
Jerry’s a big believer that wine shouldn’t be snooty. “I once saw a wine ‘expert’ make a woman cry because she couldn’t answer his technical questions – he showed off how much he knew at her expense. “That’s ridiculous. Just drink what you like – that’s all you need to know. Our customers know that if they have questions, they can ask me and I’ll help out any way I can.”
